ipf and pf are quite a bit different. should this particular chapter be split into pf and ipf chapters? -jdq

The book should not introduce configuring rulesets using PF, IPF or IPFW, so doesn't need separate chapters. The BSD Certification Group has decided based on the survey that the "associate" (beginning BSD admin) only needs to:

  • Recognize which firewalls are available on each BSD and which commands are used to view each firewall's ruleset. here

  • And recognize the utilities available on BSD systems to create bandwidth policies. here
